Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant

Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant- Aiken, SC

Who's This?
We begin our journey at one of our local faves. It's Sunday, which after a much too short weekend inevitably means "Let's stuff our face with Chinese day." Hong Kong is a little hole in the wall restaurant. Not much to look at, but never disappointing. After much searching for the perfect Chinese place in Aiken, Missy stumbled upon Hong Kong when a friend ordered it at her new job. We've stuck with Hong Kong since (unless we're in the mood for some buffet!)
It's always a good experience picking up your food at Hong Kong. Tonight we got a free calendar! The lady who works the counter is super nice and quick to get you in and out. Always a pleasure to see her face :)
I had the Kung Pao Chicken combination dinner tonight, and Missy had the General Tso's Chicken combination dinner. The combination dinners are generously portioned with half meat or meat and veg and half rice. It will feed you if you are starving or you and a friend if you would like normal portions. We like to order two because each comes with an egg roll and leftovers are nice for lunch on Monday. Of course we like to share too.

The Kung Pao chicken is a very good choice for a mixed vegetable-meat dish. The chicken is very tasty. Bits of celery, bell pepper and baby corn make it into the Kung Pao. Also there are water chestnuts and peanuts to top it off. The celery was crisp, fresh and not too soggy. The peanuts and water chestnuts are great for crunch. The sauce has a good amount of spice too. Another thing that is cool about Hong Kong is that you can ask for "extra spicy" if you prefer a bigger kick.
The General Tso's was definitely on point tonight. What makes Hong Kong stand out to me is their fried chicken bites. Too many places you go to have huge chunks of stringy or tough chicken. Hong Kong has little-mouth safe bites that are always cooked perfectly. The General Tso's sauce has just the right amount of spice, and they are also generous with their saucing (which is great to put on the pork friend or white rice!). Pork fried rice was the choice today. The rice is always fluffy and good. I love the egg rolls too. Always crispy, fresh and never with a weird aftertaste like some places.
Overall if you are in Aiken, SC and have a hankering for Chinese awesomeness. Stuff your face with some Hong Kong. You won't regret it.
